The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. With tpd12s015_remove() marked with __exit this function is discarded when the driver is compiled as a built-in. The result is that when the driver unbinds there is no cleanup done which results in resource leakage or worse. Fix a sparse warning with this message "warning:dereference of noderef expression". In this context it means we are dereferencing a __rcu tagged pointer directly. We should not be directly dereferencing a rcu pointer. To get a normal (non __rcu tagged pointer) from a __rcu tagged pointer we are using the function unrcu_pointer(...). The non __rcu tagged pointer then can be dereferenced just like a normal pointer. The rk3066_hdmi encoder still uses the non atomic variants of enable and disable. Convert to their atomic equivalents. In atomic mode there is no need to save the adjusted mode, so remove the mode_set function. strlcpy() reads the entire source buffer first. This read may exceed the destination size limit. This is both inefficient and can lead to linear read overflows if a source string is not NUL-terminated[1]. For devices like the Anbernic RG351M and RG351P the panel is wired to an always on regulator. When the device suspends and wakes up, there are some slight artifacts on the screen that go away over time. If instead we hold the panel in reset status after it is unprepared, this does not happen. Refactor the driver to add support for the powkiddy,rk2023-panel panel. This panel is extremely similar to the rg353p-panel but requires a smaller vertical back porch and isn't as tolerant of higher speeds. Note that while all of these panels are identical in size (70x57) it is possible future panels may not be. Tested on my RG351V, RG353P, RG353V, and RK2023. Update the NewVision NV3051D compatible strings by adding a new panel, the powkiddy,rk2023-panel, and removing another entry, the anbernic,rg353v-panel. The rk2023-panel is similar to the rg353p-panel but has slightly different timings so it needs a new string. The rg353v-panel is duplicate to the rg353p-panel, so remove it. No current devices use it and changes to the driver mean it is no longer valid as a compatible string. drm_{err,warn,...}() use __drm_printk() which takes a drm device pointer and uses the embedded device pointer to print the device. This facility handles NULL device pointer, but not NULL drm device pointer. This patch makes __drm_printk() also handle a NULL drm device pointer. The printed output is identical to if drm->dev had been NULL. MAX_ORDER was redefined so that valid allocations to the page allocator are in the range of 0..MAX_ORDER, inclusive in the commit 23baf831 ("mm, treewide: redefine MAX_ORDER sanely"). We are treating MAX_ORDER as an exclusive value, and thus could be requesting larger allocations. Update our use to match the redefinition of MAX_ORDER. Do not acquire a reference on the module that provides a client's callback functions in drm_client_init(). The additional reference prevents the user from unloading the callback functions' module and thus creating dangling pointers. This is only necessary if there is no direct dependency between the caller of drm_client_init() and the provider of the callbacks in struct drm_client_funcs. If this case ever existed, it has been removed from the DRM code. Callers of drm_client_init() also provide the callback implementation. The lifetime of the clients is tied to the dependency chain's outer-most module, which is the hardware's DRM driver. Before client helpers could be unloaded, the driver module would have to be unloaded, which also unregisters all clients. Driver modules that set up DRM clients can now be unloaded. The strncpy_from_user() returns number of copied bytes and not zero on success. The non-zero return value of ioctl is treated as error. Return zero on success instead of the number of copied bytes.
