GraphQL no longer maps this to the underscore method / attribute

This was causing some resolvers to fail. This problem was introduced by
https://github.com/rmosolgo/graphql-ruby/pull/2961/files

This allows us to take advantage of new features related to
subscriptions

This implements the same behaviour for merge requests that was added
for issues in
https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/merge_requests/40669.

This is the first step to support recent merge requests as we can reuse
all of this logic.
