BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816756 Anatoly continues to find issues with fuzzed squashfs images. This time, corrupt, missing, or undersized data for the page filling wasn't checked for, because the squashfs_{copy,read}_cache() functions did the squashfs_copy_data() call without checking the resulting data size. Which could result in the page cache pages being incompletely filled in, and no error indication to the user space reading garbage data. So make a helper function for the "fill in pages" case, because the exact same incomplete sequence existed in two places. [ I should have made a squashfs branch for these things, but I didn't intend to start doing them in the first place. My historical connection through cramfs is why I got into looking at these issues at all, and every time I (continue to) think it's a one-off. Because _this_ time is always the last time. BugLink: http://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816806 During resume from hibernation if ena_restore_device fails, ena_com_dev_reset() is called, and uses the readless read mechanism, which was already destroyed by the call to ena_com_mmio_reg_read_request_destroy(). BugLink: http://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816806 Fix race condition between ena_update_on_link_change() and ena_restore_device(). This race can occur if link notification arrives while the driver is performing a reset sequence. In this case link can be set up, enabling the device, before it is fully restored. If packets are sent at this time, the driver might access uninitialized data structures, causing kernel crash. Move the clearing of ENA_FLAG_ONGOING_RESET and netif_carrier_on() after ena_up() to ensure the device is ready when link is set up. BugLink: http://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1814095 The current netpoll implementation in the bnxt_en driver has problems that may miss TX completion events. bnxt_poll_work() in effect is only handling at most 1 TX packet before exiting. In addition, there may be in flight TX completions that ->poll() may miss even after we fix bnxt_poll_work() to handle all visible TX completions. netpoll may not call ->poll() again and HW may not generate IRQ because the driver does not ARM the IRQ when the budget (0 for netpoll) is reached. We fix it by handling all TX completions and to always ARM the IRQ when we exit ->poll() with 0 budget. Also, the logic to ACK the completion ring in case it is almost filled with TX completions need to be adjusted to take care of the 0 budget case, as discussed with Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Reported-by: Song Liu <songliubraving@fb.com> Reviewed-by: Song Liu <songliubraving@fb.com> Tested-by: Song Liu <songliubraving@fb.com> Signed-off-by: Michael Chan <michael.chan@broadcom.com> Signed-off-by: David S. The function l2cap_get_conf_opt will return L2CAP_CONF_OPT_SIZE + opt->len as length value. The opt->len however is in control over the remote user and can be used by an attacker to gain access beyond the bounds of the actual packet. To prevent any potential leak of heap memory, it is enough to check that the resulting len calculation after calling l2cap_get_conf_opt is not below zero. A well formed packet will always return >= 0 here and will end with the length value being zero after the last option has been parsed. In case of malformed packets messing with the opt->len field the length value will become negative. If that is the case, then just abort and ignore the option. In case an attacker uses a too short opt->len value, then garbage will be parsed, but that is protected by the unknown option handling and also the option parameter size checks. Bugzilla: 1671930 Emulation of certain instructions (VMXON, VMCLEAR, VMPTRLD, VMWRITE with memory operand, INVEPT, INVVPID) can incorrectly inject a page fault when passed an operand that points to an MMIO address. The page fault will use uninitialized kernel stack memory as the CR2 and error code. The right behavior would be to abort the VM with a KVM_EXIT_INTERNAL_ERROR exit to userspace; however, it is not an easy fix, so for now just ensure that the error code and CR2 are zero. kvm_ioctl_create_device() does the following: 1. creates a device that holds a reference to the VM object (with a borrowed reference, the VM's refcount has not been bumped yet) 2. initializes the device 3. transfers the reference to the device to the caller's file descriptor table 4. calls kvm_get_kvm() to turn the borrowed reference to the VM into a real reference The ownership transfer in step 3 must not happen before the reference to the VM becomes a proper, non-borrowed reference, which only happens in step 4. After step 3, an attacker can close the file descriptor and drop the borrowed reference, which can cause the refcount of the kvm object to drop to zero. This means that we need to grab a reference for the device before anon_inode_getfd(), otherwise the VM can disappear from under us. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1817628 Shakeel Butt reported he has observed in production systems that the job loader gets stuck for 10s of seconds while doing a mount operation. It turns out that it was stuck in register_shrinker() because some unrelated job was under memory pressure and was spending time in shrink_slab(). Machines have a lot of shrinkers registered and jobs under memory pressure have to traverse all of those memcg-aware shrinkers and affect unrelated jobs which want to register their own shrinkers. To solve the issue, this patch simply bails out slab shrinking if it is found that someone wants to register a shrinker in parallel. A downside is it could cause unfair shrinking between shrinkers. However, it should be rare and we can add compilcated logic if we find it's not enough. However, the two entries VMENTER_L1D_FLUSH_EPT_DISABLED and VMENTER_L1D_FLUSH_NOT_REQUIRED must not be accepted by the parse function, so disable them there. 2) invalid values must be rejected even if the CPU does not have the bug, so test for them before checking boot_cpu_has(X86_BUG_L1TF) ... and a small refactoring, since the .cmd field is redundant with the index in the array. Possible interrupt unsafe locking scenario: CPU0 CPU1 ---- ---- lock(&st->lock); local_irq_disable(); lock(&(&sighand->siglock)->rlock); lock(&st->lock); <Interrupt> lock(&(&sighand->siglock)->rlock); *** DEADLOCK *** The code path which connects those locks is: speculative_store_bypass_update() ssb_prctl_set() do_seccomp() do_syscall_64() In svm_vcpu_run() speculative_store_bypass_update() is called with interupts enabled via x86_virt_spec_ctrl_set_guest/host(). This is actually a false positive, because GIF=0 so interrupts are disabled even if IF=1; however, we can easily move the invocations of x86_virt_spec_ctrl_set_guest/host() into the interrupt disabled region to cure it, and it's a good idea to keep the GIF=0/IF=1 area as small and self-contained as possible. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1811646 commit 518e7b94 upstream Linux (among the others) has checks to make sure that certain features aren't enabled on a certain family/model/stepping if the microcode version isn't greater than or equal to a known good version. By exposing the real microcode version, we're preventing buggy guests that don't check that they are running virtualized (i.e., they should trust the hypervisor) from disabling features that are effectively not buggy. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1811646 commit d1d93fa9 upstream In order to determine if LFENCE is a serializing instruction on AMD processors, MSR 0xc0011029 (MSR_F10H_DECFG) must be read and the state of bit 1 checked. This patch will add support to allow a guest to properly make this determination. Add the MSR feature callback operation to svm.c and add MSR 0xc0011029 to the list of MSR-based features. If LFENCE is serializing, then the feature is supported, allowing the hypervisor to set the value of the MSR that guest will see. Support is also added to write (hypervisor only) and read the MSR value for the guest. A write by the guest will result in a #GP. A read by the guest will return the value as set by the host. In this way, the support to expose the feature to the guest is controlled by the hypervisor. BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1811646 commit 1eaafe91 upstream. If there is a possibility that a VM may migrate to a Skylake host, then the hypervisor should report IA32_ARCH_CAPABILITIES.RSBA[bit 2] as being set (future work, of course). This implies that CPUID.(EAX=7,ECX=0):EDX.ARCH_CAPABILITIES[bit 29] should be set. Therefore, kvm should report this CPUID bit as being supported whether or not the host supports it. Userspace is still free to clear the bit if it chooses. For more information on RSBA, see Intel's white paper, "Retpoline: A Branch Target Injection Mitigation" (Document Number 337131-001), currently available at https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=199511. Since the IA32_ARCH_CAPABILITIES MSR is emulated in kvm, there is no dependency on hardware support for this feature. A VMCS that is made active on more than one logical processor may become corrupted. Therefore, before an active VMCS can be migrated to another logical processor, the first logical processor must execute a VMCLEAR for the active VMCS. Traditionally we have tried to download all and any packages we can find. If we have any packages we just assume that what we got is a consistent set and use it. This leads to incomplete sets being committed on network failure. Firstly detect and differentiate transport errors and valid missing packages. Secondly switch to analysing known good package set combinations; this relies on the presumption that the publisher only publishes all or none of a binary package set. This lets us throw errors when we are unable to find an internally consistent set of packages.
