The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new(), which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers are converted, .remove_new() will be renamed to .remove(). Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. Returning an error code from .remove() makes the driver core emit the little helpful error message: remove callback returned a non-zero value. This will be ignored. and then remove the device anyhow. So replace the error return (and with it the little helpful error message) by a more useful error message. Returning an error code from .remove() makes the driver core emit the little helpful error message: remove callback returned a non-zero value. This will be ignored. and then remove the device anyhow. So all resources that were not freed are leaked in this case. Skipping serial8250_unregister_port() has the potential to keep enough of the UART around to trigger a use-after-free. So replace the error return (and with it the little helpful error message) by a more useful error message and continue to cleanup. systemd-254 tries to use prctl(PR_SET_MDWE) for it's MemoryDenyWriteExecute functionality, but fails on parisc which still needs executable stacks in certain combinations of gcc/glibc/kernel. Disable prctl(PR_SET_MDWE) by returning -EINVAL for now on parisc, until userspace has catched up. strlcpy() reads the entire source buffer first. This read may exceed the destination size limit. This is both inefficient and can lead to linear read overflows if a source string is not NUL-terminated[1]. Additionally, it returns the size of the source string, not the resulting size of the destination string. In an effort to remove strlcpy() completely[2], replace strlcpy() here with strscpy().
